A Hope-Filled Weekend
Posted by Lori Kovach on February 17, 2012

The Women of Hope Conference for 2012 is officially "in the books." The staff of Healing Hands and the Women of Hope Committee would like to sincerely thank you for coming and helping to make it such a wonderful event. The countless hours we spent planning and preparing for the conference were well worth it when we were able to see the smiles and hear the laughs of so many ladies filling the corridors of the hotel. So many of you had fantastic things to say and a lot of you even told us you look forward to this special weekend all year!

It was a special treat having Elizabeth Yakubu join us all the way from Ghana! Hearing her tell the stories of women's lives being impacted by the work being done through the Women Worth a Million program was compelling. In the picture below, Elizabeth is showing off some of the jewelry made by ladies who were trained by her and Willa Finley, of Texas. Willa and Elizabeth are conducting workshops in Ghana and Western Kenya in jewelry making, pomade production, food preparation and preservation, and small business economics. Training almost 250 ladies in 2011, the goal of these workshops is to give women in the poorest rural areas an opportunity to better provide for their family's nutritional, medical, and educational needs. We invite you to visit our online store and check out the many different jewelry pieces these ladies have created.

Along with the jewelry, we were also able to introduce the shea butter lotion the "One Hand" Women's Group from Saboba in Northern Ghana is producing. Healing Hands originally met these ladies in 2008 when we sponsored a drip irrigation workshop in their village. Elizabeth and Willa have encouraged and supported these ladies as they have grown their business and now they are able to sell their shea butter through HHI. So many of you who were with us for the conference purchased these jewelry items or shea butter products. Through these purchases you not only support the women who made them, but you also help to provide training to additional women's groups as the funds will be invested into the Women Worth a Million program.

We can't thank you enough for making this event and these new product launches such a success. Many women will be impacted through your efforts! We hope you will make plans now to join us next year, February 1 & 2 for Women of Hope 2013.
