Dr. Bobbie Solley Joins Our Team
Posted by Lori Kovach on July 11, 2012

Healing Hands has been blessed over the years to work with many wonderful people who want to share the love of Christ with the world. We are truly excited to announce that Dr. Bobbie Solley has joined our team as our Director of International Education Development. Dr. Solley has spent 32 years in public education with the last 23 years being dedicated to higher education. She recently retired after 21 years of service at Middle Tennessee State University where she taught graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy and writing in the Department of Elementary and Special Education.

From the moment you meet her you can see the passion she has for educating children and the teachers who teach them. Dr. Solley has empowered thousands of children here in the United States and we're excited to see how God will use her talents to bless the children and teachers in impoverished nations around the world.

Just days after setting up her new office, Dr. Solley is packing her bags and heading to Haiti. Melanie Maxwell and her daughter, MariMegan, visited our Nashville office on Monday and began helping Bobbie pack and organize the supplies and materials needed for the trip. Abby Anderton, Anna D'Herde, Nicole Hurt, Tera Pressnell, and Melanie will be joining Dr. Solley on the visit to Haiti. This group of teachers will begin what will be a year long work with the school at Ganthier. Their focus will be on training the teachers more effective ways of teaching children with a focus on literacy. Seven teachers are responsible for educating more than 150 students at this school so their task is not a small one. With Dr. Solley's extensive experience working with schools that serve children from low income areas she is especially qualified to prepare these teachers for their jobs.

We at Healing Hands continue to be amazed at God's work in Haiti. The addition of Dr. Bobbie Solley to our staff is an exciting glimpse into the future of this ministry and what God has in store for us. We cannot thank all of you enough for your continuing support of our relief efforts in Haiti. You are truly making a difference in the lives of so many. Make sure you check the HHI blog frequently because Dr. Solley will begin writing about her efforts shortly after she returns from this trip!
