“I will now walk 5 minutes to get water.”

October 1, 2026

Everything changes when a community has clean water.

Through HHI’s Clean Water program, the Iyama community in Uganda now has access to a safe, reliable source of clean water. More than 1,400 people will now benefit from this well—changing daily life for families throughout the community.

For Jacklyn, a 65-year-old mother of 11, this gift is deeply personal.

Jacklyn has lived in the village for 45 years, but she says she had never experienced what it was like to have clean water. Her family previously relied on contaminated water and faced a long, difficult journey to collect it.

“I praise God for HHI for giving us water. I got married and lived in this village for 45 years, but I have never tasted how clean water is. Besides the contaminated water we fetch, one has to walk 3 km to get water, which still will not be enough to serve a big family like mine. So, sometimes I take the whole day waiting to fetch. But, today, I am the happiest that hope has been restored in me. I will now walk 5 minutes to get water. Thank you so much, HHI.”

What once took hours can now take just minutes.

This means more time for children to attend school, more time for parents to work and care for their families, and greater protection from waterborne illness. Clean water doesn’t just meet a physical need—it restores time, dignity, health, and hope.

And Jacklyn is just one of more than 1,400 people whose lives will be changed by this well.

Because everything changes when a community has clean water.

Thank you for helping make stories like Jacklyn’s possible.
