Clean Water

Water Access for Refugee-Hosting Bapa Village

September 30, 2025

The village of Bapa, located in the Bileafe Sub-county in the Teredo District of Arua, Uganda, now has access to clean water!

This region is extremely dry, and for years the community has suffered from a lack of safe water. As a remote area that also hosts many refugees, the host community has often been overlooked when it comes to basic services like water access. Until now, families had to walk for miles every day just to collect water for household use.

Annette, a 27-year-old mother of one, shares her story: “I thank God for this opportunity. I have never slept for more than 5 hours ever since I got married because I always wake up at 4am to walk for water and I come back at 10am. I am always in pain, but this time around I will have enough sleep and also enough water inside my house. Thank you so much, HHI. I will never suffer from skin rashes anymore because of bathing with dirty water. My life is now much better then before.”

Through HHI’s Clean Water program, families like Annette’s no longer have to wake before dawn or endure exhausting treks for water. Clean water is now just steps away—bringing health, dignity, and hope to an entire community.
