Under the Mango Trees: A New Chapter for Women in Uganda

July 31, 2025

A Women of Hope (WOH) Christian Business Women’s Conference recently brought together the women of Kitambogo Church of Christ in Uganda for a powerful and inspiring first-time event. So many came that the gathering moved from inside the church to under the mango trees—an encouraging sign of the hunger for growth, fellowship, and hope within this community.

Among those attending was Esther, a widow from Kitambogo village. She came while running a small business selling Mandazi (a local snack). After learning about God’s purpose for work and practical ways to grow her business, she hopes to expand her business to include silver fish and see positive changes at home and in her neighborhood. Previously part of a high-interest savings group, she was relieved to discover the WOH Savings Group, calling it a lifeline: “You have come to save us.”

Eseza, another participant, runs a pancake business. She left the conference with new insights into hygiene, customer care, and record-keeping—skills she’s excited to put into practice. Like Esther, she plans to join the savings group and start building a more secure future.

Stories like these are just the beginning. The Kitambogo community is full of potential, but they still face many hurdles—limited access to Bibles, water shared between three villages, and a lack of basic hygiene supplies that keeps girls out of school. Yet through gatherings like this conference, we see what’s possible when women are equipped, encouraged, and supported.

As we look ahead, there’s great hope for what can come next—more training, better access to resources, and continued spiritual growth. For those who feel moved by what’s happening in Kitambogo, there are meaningful ways to come alongside and be part of the journey. Make a gift today at hhi.org/give.
