In the heart of Segera, Laikipia North, Kenya, a Hunger to Harvest workshop brought new hope to families who have faced the harsh realities of prolonged drought. Held at Edana, the training gathered 35 men, women, and children from a community traditionally dependent on livestock. After losing most of their animals to drought, many families are now courageously transitioning to crop farming and environmentally friendly activities such as beekeeping to rebuild their livelihoods.
Josephine, a wife and mother of seven, shared how meaningful the training was for her family. “This training is going to assist me to feed my children. I will also be able to get income for my family. My family will have good health because they will get fresh vegetables free from any chemical,” she said with gratitude. Another participant, Likas, a father of ten, echoed her hope: “This training is going to help me feed my family and generate income. It has been an eye opener.”
Despite rainy conditions, participants attended with excitement and actively engaged, eager to apply what they learned in their own homes. When you support HHI’s Hunger to Harvest program, you are opening doors for families like Josephine’s and Likas’s to change their trajectories—moving from survival to sustainability, and from loss to renewed hope.
