Workshop Series "Harvest the Rain, Reap the Grains" Announced
Posted by Lori Kovach on March 13, 2012

In today's world, food prices are skyrocketing causing more and more people to face difficult decisions when it comes to feeding their families. This reality is not only evident in third world countries but is beginning to hit very close to home right here in the United States as well. Along with soaring food prices the water crisis is also spreading to this country. If you don't believe me, just ask any Texas resident that endured the sweltering, dry summer of 2011. To combat these world-wide issues Healing Hands is not only training communities internationally but we are also offering these training sessions to individuals right here in the U.S.

We are excited to announce the first annual "Harvest the Rain, Reap the Grains" Workshop series. A collection of different workshops will be taking place in Nashville, Tennessee which will cover the topics of rainwater harvesting and food sustainability.   Beginning April 24 and running through April 27, HHI will be working in conjunction with American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) to offer two workshops for professionals seeking certification in rainwater harvesting. Saturday, April 28 HHI will be partnering with Lipscomb University's Institute for Sustainable Practice to present a seminar on the Introduction to Rainwater Harvesting. This is for the general public and those interested in learning more about its uses and applicability to conserving rainfall as a natural resource.

The following week our new Director of Agriculture Education, Carl Burkybile, will be presenting our annual Food Sustainability workshop. Beginning April 30 and running through May 5, this workshop will focus on food sustainability and will include topics such as composting, drip irrigation and several diferent types of food preservation techniques.

We hope you will choose to join us and learn what we are teaching community and church leaders around the world. For more information on this series of workshops and to register, click here.
