Clean Water Rising

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us". Ephesians 3.20

On Saturday, April 21 at the 2012 Walk 4 Water for South Sudan, we saw His ability. We prayed for no rain and He answered. We prayed for sucess and He answered. He went beyond what we asked for and what we expected, showing His ability, love, and power. Over $35,000 was given for clean water.

Terry Gilliam and the LaFayette church of Christ youth group were overjoyed when they presented HHI with over $6,000. Each year of their attendence, they have raised more money than the previous year. Every little bit has helped, but this year was different because they could fund a whole well. The 11 kids and adults involved with the fundraising would be able to bring clean water to more than 3,000 people. The outcome will be measurable. Less people will get sick from polluted water. Less people will have to walk miles and miles. Most importantly, more people will see the love of Christ.

The part of the day that was very inspiring to me was being able to walk with a young man named Kim, from South Sudan. He said, "Although it was cool outside, it warmed my heart to see so many people coming together to raise money and awareness to conditions in South Sudan...What a great experience!" South Sudan is so far away and it is difficult to get a good grasp on the necessity of clean water. Meeting Kim allowed me to form a friendship that helped me greater understand the reality of difficult situations going on outside my life.

The best part of this story is yet to come; how God will continually show His ability, love, and power after the wells are drilled. Thousands of people will have clean water. Thousands of people won't have to worry about water-bourne illnesses. Children will be filled with joy. Children will get to spend more time learning and playing instead of walking.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who gave time, energy, and money. But most importantly, praise be to God!
