When a natural disaster strikes, the HHI offices are flooded with phone calls, emails and visits from concerned supporters who want to get involved. It is moving for us to see the outpouring of love and support, but it also becomes overwhelming. We need volunteers who are willing to be on "stand-by" to be called in for times like this. These volunteers would answer phones, return emails and/or prepare relief supplies to be shipped. If you are interested in joining this list, contact Cindy Herring.
Disaster Relief Kits
This is a way to get involved without ever leaving home. When a disaster strikes, hygiene and first aid kits are needed on-hand to be packed and shipped immediately. Groups can prepare these and send them to each of our facilities to have on-hand for the next disaster. Kits should include the following:
- Bath towel
- Wash cloth
- Bar of soap
- Neosporin Ointment
- 1 box bandaids in assorted sizes
Place items in a 2 gallon zip lock bag. For any questions on how to prepare these kits, contact Cindy Herring.
Immediately after a disaster, our first step is to make contact with any missionaries or local congregations that might be in or near the area. This is vital to the success of our assistance because they are able to give us the most accurate description of what is truly needed by the people most affected. If you know of anyone that can assist us in a disaster area please contact us.
