In the United States, all we have to do to get water is go to the sink and turn a knob on the faucet. Many, many people in the world do not have this luxury. Instead, they must walk miles to the nearest source of water. And when they get there, the water they find is extremely dirty and polluted. They know this water is not good for them, but it is all they have.
Notice the plastic jugs that the people in this picture are using to collect water. "Jerry cans" like these are often used for collecting and carrying water. On the sides of many of these jerry cans, there is a design inscribed that has served as the inspiration for the symbol of Healing Hands' Walk 4 Water. The animation below illustrates the connection. This symbol is intended to be just one of the many points of connection between the experience of those who participate in HHI's Walk 4 Water and the experience of those who must walk for water daily.
