HHI Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept supplies and/or donations from non-church of Christ entities?
Yes. We welcome the efforts of all who wish to have a part in relieving world-wide suffering.

How are shipments of aid distributed?
HHI utilizes the world-wide network of church of Christ mission points to provide distribution. Medical supplies are distributed through qualified medical personnel.

How are shipments of aid financed?
Shipments destined for a specific location/mission point are normally sponsored by a stateside congregation or partnership congregations. Relief aid to international disaster victims is funded through donations from individuals, businesses, organizations and congregations.

Do you aid areas that do not have an official church of Christ presence?
Yes. We attempt to aid all people regardless of race, religion, creed or ethnic background. When there is no official church presence, representatives of HHI meet with government officials to determine specifics of aid-needs and distribution. HHI representatives are also present when shipment is received to assure proper distribution. At all times, officials are aware that the church of Christ is responsible for providing aid.

Do you provide relief aid to disaster victims within the U.S.?
Typically, no. HHI aid is normally directed internationally. For disasters taking place within the U.S., we recommend a sister organization, Churches of Christ Disaster Relief (www.disasterreliefeffort.org).

What kind of charitable organization is Healing Hands International?
Healing Hands International is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As such, all contributions made to HHI are deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Every donation made to Healing Hands International is fully tax deductible as allowed by law because HHI qualifies under the IRS rules for tax deductions. When you make a donation through our site, be sure to save and/or print the confirmation e-mail you receive from HHI for your tax records.

Is there a good or bad time to donate?
To qualify for a tax deduction for this year, you must make donations by December 31st of the current calendar year.

Can I itemize my deductions this year?
Even though your donations may be tax deductible you can only deduct them if you itemize deductions on your tax return. Itemizing, or listing your deductions individually, is a good idea if your itemized deductions add up to more than the standard deduction the IRS allows.

For most of us, charitable donations alone aren't likely to be enough. But, if you pay interest on a home mortgage, have medical expenses that exceed certain base amounts, or have additional deductions you plan to itemize, including your donations may help to lower your tax bill.
