As the old saying goes, “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” This is what the Healing Hands Agricultural Department is all about.

In our modern times, it’s hard to believe that many people of the world go to bed at night hungry. Healing Hands receives appeals from many parts of the world to help these people who suffer from chronic hunger and malnutrition.

Most of the victims of this devastating problem are malnourished young children, too weak to fight off common diseases. One child dies every five seconds from hunger-related diseases. Their deaths occur quietly in dusty villages in Malawi, Africa, the slums of Honduras, and the highlands of Peru.

In addition to these ongoing problems of hunger, there are also emergency food needs as a result of natural disasters. When an immediate need arises, HHI is equipped to respond to pressing needs as well as to restore and rebuild local communities. With the help of workshops and education, community members learn how to build an efficient agricultural economy. HHI seeks to help those in need by teaching them how to survive on their own.

In response to emergency situations, HHI has organized shipments of food such as rice, beans, corn, and other items to areas experiencing lack of food. These immediate responses to disasters are often a first step in a process of agricultural relief and development Healing Hands.

Once immediate needs have been met, Healing Hands International continues its efforts to restore the community by teaching individuals how to provide for their own needs with simple drip irrigation skills. This effort among local community members and volunteers creates an opportunity for both economic and spiritual development.

Healing Hands International has three levels of support for those who want to learn how to take care of themselves.
