When we think about the needs of missionaries, the first items that usually come to mind are things like medicine, clothing and building supplies. HHI has recently identified another need that we are able to meet.
We have begun providing desktops and laptops to mission points around the world to better help them carry out their work. So far, we have shipped these computers to 19 different countries including Kenya, Honduras and Greece, just to name a few.
In Nairobi, Kenya, a church-sponsored organization called "Made in the Streets" is using the computers to teach children the skills needed to find jobs and support themselves.
Here in the U.S., the Echo Hills church of Christ is using the computers supplied by HHI in their bus ministry. Each week, they bring in about 100 children from the "inner city" community of Madison, TN for a mentoring program. The children are able to use the computers for homework in the after school program.
The church of Christ in Honduras uses the computers in their local prison ministry. They seek to help prisoners prepare themselves for a productive life outside of prison.
