Five Agricultural Workshops in 2007

The 2006 Pan-African “Fight Famine Now” conference was such a great success that it has inspired several more workshops for 2007. At this time there are five drip irrigation workshops planned for the first half of the year, with several more workshops tentatively scheduled for later in the year.
While drought and famine are problems usually associated with Africa, HHI has found that people suffer from the same problems in other regions of the world, also. One such region is in Honduras in Central America, where HHI’s David Goolsby will be conducting a workshop in June of this year. This workshop will be hosted by Mission Lazarus Refuge in Las Palmas, with 20 Honduran farmers scheduled to attend.
The first workshop in Africa this year will be the Saharan Regional workshop, which will take place in late February in Dakar, Senegal, and will be hosted by the Dakar church of Christ. Ten Saharan countries will be represented with 40 African farmers being trained in drip irrigation techniques.
The second and third conferences will be held back-to-back in Jos, Nigeria, and will be hosted by the Jos International School of Biblical Studies. There will be 80 students attending these workshops, including all of the students at the school. The school also plans to make drip irrigation a part of their required curriculum. The most exciting thing about these two workshops is that they are the
first of their kind to be held in a
predominantly Muslim region of Africa.
The fourth conference scheduled so far for Africa this year will be held in May at the Mapepe Bible College in Lusaka, Zambia. This workshop will have 40 attendees and will be directed by Richard Myers of the Sycamore View church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee.
Fighting famine throughout the world can seem so overwhelming, but the “Fight Famine Now” campaign is proving that it can be done. In the next five months alone, close to 200 brethren will be taught the skills needed to provide food for their families and villages. More importantly, our brethren will be equipped with the knowledge needed to teach others in their own communities these techniques, opening doors for evangelism throughout Africa and Central America.
